Message from the President

The board would like to hear from you to know what you would like the neighborhood association work on for you.  You can send an email or stop by and talk to any of the officers. We would like more participation and input from the people that live in the Malone area. If you send your email to use, we will put you on our email list for the newsletter and other neighborhood information. You can send your email to pstruwe1943@msn.com to be added to the Hawley Neighborhood Area Assoc. mailing list.

P & Q Street Construction

Construction of the bridges have started on P and Q streets.  The ‘shoefly’ is in place on both streets so we drive around the construction area. The bridges are being built in the path of the street.  When all bridges are built, then the Antelope Creek will be dug out and opened under the bridges. The O street bridge should be started next year.

Big T has another leg open

Another leg of the big T has opened over the railroad tracks at 17th Street.  We are seeing many construction projects relating to Antelope Valley Project happening in our neighborhood.

Whittier School

UNL has made plans for Whittier School but at this time it hasn’t been made public.

Heartland Optical Inc. has opened in their new building at 27th and Apple.  They will continue their wholesale business and have added retail sales.

Vine Street construction is now completed. Plantings have been completed. It will be interesting to see the plants as they mature.

Liberty Village is the first project for redevelopment in our area for the Antelope Valley Project.  Brighton Construction is working with the city Urban Develop Department and Neighborhoods Inc. to build 16 single family homes and 2 duplex units located between U and Vine, 23rd to 24th Streets. The 16 homes are now built and sold.  They are in the process of building the 2 duplex units.

Graffiti

The graffiti ordinance was passed recently. The ordinance will make sure that graffiti is removed and not left on buildings. If you have been hit by graffiti, you can get help by calling Don Stone at 742-5744. If you would like to report Graffiti, go to the city web site and download the form, fill it out and send it in. North 27th Street Business & Civic organization represents the businesses on North 27th Street.  Everyone is invited to their general meetings where they usually have updates from the city and other people with news about our area.

New Plantings

New plantings will be going into the median from O Street to the viaduct. Parks and Rec will be overseeing the project and Campbells has the contract to care for the medians this year. This is a project of the North 27th Street Business & Civic Organization.

North 27th Business & Civic Organization

The N27th org meets monthly to work on improving N27th Street look and feel.  They also are working to bring more businesses into the area. If you would like to join the organization, contact Vi Kuhl at Kuhl Insurance 475-2609.

The newsletter will be sent out monthly to keep people up to date with what is happening. However, it will only be sent out by email at this time.  If you want the newsletter on paper, you will need to request a copy and pay postage or have someone pick it up.  The newsletter will now be on our web site in the future.
